If you want to discover a mountain life with distinctive customs of indigenous ethnic groups, Sa Pa resort town is a must-visit destination.

Located in the northwestern part of Vietnam, Sa Pa town is 1,600 meters above sea level and about 376km from Hanoi. It is home to several ethnic minority groups such as H’Mong, Dao, Giay, Xa Pho and Tay.

Surrounded by the Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range, the climate in Sa Pa is unique in Vietnam, subtropical in the summer and temperate during the winter.

September or October is the right time for visitors to explore beautiful terraced fields during the ripening rice season. In addition, Sa Pa is also a suitable place for visitors who enjoy walking, cycling and mountain climbing along others.

3. Can Tho city

Located in the south, Can Tho is the fourth largest city in Vietnam and the largest city in the Mekong Delta. It is noted for floating markets, rice-paper making villages, fruit gardens, and crisscrossed picturesque rural canals.

Several suggested destinations in Can Tho include Ninh Kieu quay, Cai Rang floating market, Binh Thuy ancient house, Bang Lang stork sanctuary, Thoi Nhut flower village, or Can Tho bridge.

Like many localities in southern Vietnam, Can Tho has rainy and dry seasons in a year, with the former lasting from May to November and the latter from December to April. However, the ideal time to make a holiday locally is between April and June when temperatures are moderate and the rainy season is not infull swing yet.

4. Hoi An

UNESCO-recognised Hoi An ancient town attracts large numbers of foreign visitors every year.

In 2020, the US travel magazine, Travel + Leisure, ranked Hoi An third in the top 25 leading tourist cities in the world, scoring 90.52 / 100.

5. Da Nang

Located in central Vietnam, the coastal city is known for its sandy beaches and history as a French colonial port.

In addition to beautiful beaches, Da Nang houses the Son Tra peninsula where endangered red shanked douc langur, one of the world’s most striking primates, live. Holidaymakers can visit Cham Museum of Scupture which is home to the largest collection of Cham sculpture in the world.

Visitors can also explore Marble Mountains, a collection of five outcrops topped with atmospheric pagodas, Ba Na Hills, a record breaking 5km cable car at an altitude of 1,300m above sea level, Hai Van Pass, one of the finest stretches of coastal road in Vietnam, UNESCO-recognised My Son Sanctuary or Lang Co lagoon.

The best months to visit Da Nang are from March to May and September to October, when the weather is warm. June – August is prime time for local tourists as it is rather hot then, but it has little rain while the sea is clear and calm.

Many tourists are impressed by the city’s beauty and people’s friendliness and said Da Nang is one of the few destinations in Vietnam where they will return one day.

1. Binh Tay Market:

Binh Tay Market also known as Lon Market (Big Market) is one of the largest and oldest markets of the city. Its construction costswas financed by a Chinese trader named Quach Dam. In turn, he asked for permission of building houses around the market and erecting his statue in the central courtyard of the market after his death. . Market was built using cement, steel with Western techniques and Chinese architecture.

The market opens from 2-3 am to 9-10 pm. It provides all goods with lower prices in comparison to other nearby markets. Annually the market welcomes many visitors, both locals and foreigners. For convenient sightseeing and shopping, travelers should choose hotels in area where Chinese lives in District 6

2. Ben Thanh Market

Ben Thanh Market in Saigon was build by Brossard et Maupin from 1912 to May 3/1914. The opening took place in three days 28, 29 and 30/3/1914 with fireworks, and more than 100,000 guests.

Ben Thanh Market has 4 gates and 4 mounted clock tower overlooking 4 center roads in District 1. The main gate of the market is considered as city’s symbol.

Currently there are more than 3,000 market booths which selling goods from food, daily items to luxury goods. The market opens at 4 am in the north gate which selling fruit and fresh goods. Around 8-9 am gates of East, West and South open up.

When the sun goes down, Ben Thanh night market is formed outdoor by the streets located in East gate and West gate of the market. Unlike the day market Ben Thanh night market is selling only 2 items – fashion and food with average prices. 4. Tan Dinh Market

Tan Dinh Market is located in the downtown area of Ho Chi Minh. It was built in 1926 and is one of the historic markets in Saigon. The main gate was designed quite beautiful with striking architecture but nothing special inside the market.

The market has goods such as fresh food, clothes, shoes, and fruit with higher price than other markets. However, residents and visitors know about this market because of cheapest price and diversity of fabric in Saigon.

5. An Dong Market

An Dong Market had 56 year of history with 2,702 booths. Beside normal goods like other markets, the market is regarded as the “king of fashion”. Tam Coc is located in the Van Lam village which is 7km southwest of the center. It is is called “The Halong Bay on land” with the stunning limestone and rice paddies. Especially, it is the most beautiful in May, June with the endless fields of grain.

The highlight of Tam Coc is its different experience. It is the most pleasant felling while rowing through the Ngo Dong River in a ‘sampan’ and enjoying the fantastic scenery of mountains, rocks, and paddy fields for around 1 hour. Unique points of this trip are boatmen use their feet to row the boat and you can see wild mountain goats on the hillsides. A small advice to you is that you should not do it in the noon as it is extremely hot and there will be no shade apart from yours.

After an hour trip on the river, take another trip by bicycle around the agricultural villages and through the rice fields, many beautiful valleys on the picturesque quiet roads. On the way, visiting the pagoda or talking to local people is also great experience. Please be advised that, as at other temple/pagoda sites, it’s the better to be well behaved and stay covered up (no shorts), even when no one will officially check or enforce a dress code.

2/ Bicycle rental: Almost every hotel in Tam Coc has this service, very easy to find. Average price is around VND 50,000 per hour.

4/ You may be annoyed by local people who try to sell snacks and beverage and souvenirs. Just ignore them if you don’t want to buy and wait until the end of your boat trip to give the boatman a big tip. It is around VND 100,000 (USD 5) for your reference.

It was very convenient as the tour offered right at my hotel. I bought it at VND150,000 including everything from pick-up cars, boats, local guides, entrance tickets to a lunch and one bottle of still water. This tour will take you to some of the most popular islands in Nha Trang Bay in a morning and an afternoon.

At 8.30 AM, a 16-seat van came to pick me up at my hotel and then ran to the main wharf of the city which was 10 minutes away. Nha Trang Bay has officially been recognized by UNESCO as one of the 20 most beautiful bays in the whole world so that it always is fully crowed most of the time. A local guide was very friendly and enthusiastic. He warmly welcomed and led us onto a big wooden boat.

It was very sunny and hot when we arrived the first destination at 9.30. That was Hon Mun (Black Island) which located 7 km away from the center of Nha Trang, an ideal place for snorkeling, scuba diving and coral watching. If you are not interested in any of these activities above, don’t worry since this island also occupies a white sandy beach that is wonderful to swim and sunbath.

Left Hon Mun for the next place, Monkey Island which is 10 minutes of boating away from Hon Mun. This island is home to various kinds of monkeys and other precious animals.

After finishing Monkey Island, we headed to the biggest island in Nha Trang, Hon Tre (Bamboo Island). The island is well-known for Vinpearl Land, an amusement park with the total area of nearly 250,000 square meters. You will have an opportunity to experience interesting things such as sea-crossing cable cars, fantastic underwater paths, grand shopping malls, etc.

It was noon when we all were both tired and hungry. The boat crew cooked us a lunch with some delicious fresh seafood and served them right on board in a very funny and friendly manner. I was really satisfied with this boat tour and will definitely come back for it. How about you guys?

About 30km far away from Danang with only thirty minutes by motorbike, the town established in 16th century still preserves almost its architecture landscape and decoration that made me very impressed. Especially, Bridge pagoda – Japanese bridge or Lai Vien Kieu is the only wooden bridge bearing in itself the hallmark of cultural exchange of 3 people: Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and was the evidence of Vietnam – Japan hundreds of years old relation. This makes Hoi An become a prioritized destination by most of tourists from Japan and Europe (like me) when they want to learn about Vietnamese cultural in the Central Region.

In Hoi An, apart from a leisure of enjoying the ancient town, I could approach many unique activities of local residents. Hoianians are always special in their behaviors, friendly and open to everyone.

I can find and see local specialties such as: banh bao, banh vac, and rice chicken along Hoi An street. Cao Lau could only be found in this city and only when cooked by Hoianian, the dish has its actual taste.

I love shopping in Hoi An since I did not have to bargain as in other countries, especially with lanterns and Ao Dai. I have had an Ao Dai made within just 1 hour! It was very nice and fitted me well. Unbelievable!

And there is some bonus information that my college told me:

– “Night of Hoi An ancient town” takes place in the afternoon till late night every 14th day in lunar month. Native people light their lanterns in front of their house to welcome the noon. I was there on that day, the street was very beautiful with many lanterns.
– Every Wednesday and Saturday, “Streets without engine sound” is a program to habituate people to keep their motor-engine vehicles outside the town.
– Hoi An can be reached by bus, taxi or motorbike.
